ABOUT THIS DRAGON FRUIT CACTUS
Giant Red Dragon Fruit Cactus- The fruits produced are florescent pink inside edible and sweet. A hedge of this plant in full bloom is an unforgettable sight! Easily adapted to a variety of climates and soils this night blooming cactus is world renowned and is cultivated around the world in tropical regions for the fruit it bears. The white flowers are beautiful and usually last just one night where pollination is necessary to set fruit. The fruit commonly know as dragon fruit has an ornate exterior of soft spikes with a soft pulped interior flesh. The fruit is easily cut in half and eaten with a spoon by the mannered or cut in quarters and devoured by those who just want to have fun. This cactus is a must have for any collector or garden with the flair for the unusual.
Dragon Fruit Cactus will continue to grow indefinitely if the roots can attach to moist organic matter, burlap works well. However your new Dragon Fruit Cactus may over or under perform, depending on the light, soil and humidity it is exposed to.

DRAGON FRUIT CACTUS CARE
Giant Red are very easy to grow drought tollerant Dragon Fruit Cactus that and seem to grow best when neglected. They add a wonderful accent to any desert garden or patio. In very cold zones a containerized Giant Red can be brought inside for the winter months. Most will survive a very light frost and quickly return to normal in spring. In the northern end of their grow zone Giant Red Dragon Fruit Cactus should be brought indoors or protected during the winter months.
When you receive your new Dragon Fruit Cactus open your box carefully and water if dry. Please take your time when opening. Most damage occurs when the box is ripped open in the excitement of receiving new plants. Many plants, especially succulents, are very fragile and must be handled cautiously.
CONTAINER SIZE
Dragon Fruit Cactus grow very well in patio containers, allow enough room for growth generally a 10″ to a 20″ diameter, 14″ deep container will suffice. Remember the looser the roots, the taller and healthier your Dragon Fruit Cactus will be. When the Dragon Fruit Cactus becomes root bound its growth will slow. At that point it is time for a larger pot.
SOIL
Giant Red enjoy well drained, sandy cactus mix. Remember try to stay away from wet, mucky soils.
FERTILIZER
To help establish your new Giant Red, fertilize sparingly, biannually with a slow time release fertilizer. Unfertilized they will tend to grow very slowly. WARNING – The heavy salts in cheaper fertilizers may damage the roots thus killing the Dragon Fruit Cactus.
GROW ZONE & LIGHT
Best outdoors if grown in zone 9b-11, find your zone here. This Dragon Fruit Cactus requires 85-100% sunlight. Depending on your location full sun is best. The patio zone is 4b-11 which means the potted Dragon Fruit Cactus will flourish over the summer months in this zone but must be brought inside for the winter months. (avoid frost)
BEFORE YOU PLANT OUTDOORS
Here at the nursery these Dragon Fruit Cactus are grown under 20-40% shade cloth. If you plant directly in full sun you may experience some burn. It is best to acclimate this Dragon Fruit Cactus to its environment by keeping it outside and slowly moving it into a sunny area over a week or two to avoid stress before planting.
WHAT IS THE SHIPPING SIZE

Note: Before leaving, Dragon Fruit Cactus are inspected, watered, pruned if necessary to facilitate shipping. Your new Dragon is then bagged to keep the soil moist, to ensure that the soil stays in the pot and not loose in the box.
